Community Service Programs of West Alabama, Inc. (CSP), is a private, nonprofit,
community action agency, created by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. CSP is
dedicated to improving the quality of life for low-income and special needs populations
in its service area. The agency uses public and private funding sources to develop and
administer its various programs. CSP encourages participation in
coalitions with other organizations.
The agency's mission is focused on alleviating poverty and enabling families to reach
economic independence. The agency attempts to improve the ability of low-income and
special needs populations to manage their lives. The ultimate goal is for individuals and families to attain self-sufficiency
through results-oriented management. In addition, CSP raises awareness regarding
economic, social, educational and housing needs of low-income and special needs
citizens. |

SERVICE AREA |

| The agency's service area includes Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar and Tuscaloosa counties in West Alabama. The agency also provides various levels of services in other Alabama counties through coordination with other community action agencies. |

FUNDING SOURCES/DEVELOPMENT |
|
CSP receives funding through the following sources:Alabama Department of
Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA)-Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) and Low-Income Home
Energy Assistance Block Grant (LIHEAP), Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, Alabama Department
of Transportation Section 5311 Rural Transportation Grant, City of Tuscaloosa, Governor's Office of Faith
Based and Community Initiatives, NeighborWorks®America, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Energy - Weatherization and Pre-Weatherization Block Grants, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Department of Rural
Development, various county allocations, private donations, churches, and other entities, as well
as private citizens.
CSP administers programs and services that create opportunities for individual/family
improvements as well as community economic development. CSP develops strategies
to help individuals, families and their communities through ongoing funding,
human resources and managed assets. Results-Oriented Management Accountability (ROMA) is used to measure the impact of the agency in assisting West Alabama citizens.

| Community Service Programs of West Alabama, Inc., is required by federal law to
maintain a tripartite board consisting of one-third from the business community, one-third
elected officials and one-third representatives of the poor. The agency currently has a 15-member board with representation from each of its service counties.
The volunteer leadership of the diverse Board of Directors provides proactive governance
of the agency. |

Full-time employee benefits include: Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Teacher's
Retirement, 13 Paid Holidays, Paid Leave (maximum 24 days per year) and all benefits
mandated by law. All employees (regular-permanent, full-time) are eligible for Teacher's Retirement, health insurance, leave and holidays (prorated, if part-time). Teacher's Retirement participants are also eligible for RSA-1 (a tax-sheltered supplemental retirement plan).
Direct Deposit Requirement
As a condition of employment at Community Service Programs of West Alabama, Inc.,
all newly appointed employees are required to participate in direct deposit (unless
otherwise approved by the Executive Director). Payroll direct deposit means that an
employee's pay will be deposited directly into the employee's account at a participating
financial institution.
